A beautifully resolved ball vase by Dümler & Breiden, West Germany, model 777/15, dating to the 1960s. The form is as pure as it gets — a near-perfect sphere with a small recessed neck opening, the kind of confident, minimal shape that looks just as at home in a modern interior as it did when it was made.
What makes this piece special is the glaze combination. The matte dark brown, almost anthracite base glaze covers the majority of the body in a fine, slightly sandy texture.
Cutting diagonally across the sphere is a bold band of rich, glossy amber-caramel glaze with a warm bronze shimmer, edged by a thin cream line that separates the two glazes with a clean, graphic precision.
The diagonal placement of the band across the perfect sphere creates a dynamic tension that gives the piece a distinctly sculptural quality — it looks different from every angle.
The base is marked with the Dümler & Breiden cross logo and model number 777/15.
Dümler & Breiden was founded in 1883 in Höhr-Grenzhausen in the Westerwald, the heart of German ceramics country, and produced high-quality art pottery until the company closed in 1992.
