This striking ceramic bowl with a curved handle was made by Dümler & Breiden in West Germany, model number 206/18, dating from the 1970s. Dümler & Breiden, founded in 1883 in Höhr-Grenzhausen, was one of the most respected West German studio pottery manufacturers, known for their richly glazed pieces that have become highly collectible.
The glaze on this piece is exceptional: a deep, speckled cobalt blue covers the entire interior and exterior, while a vivid red volcanic pool glaze sits dramatically in the center of the bowl. The contrast between the two glazes, with their lava-like texture and depth, is the hallmark of West German fat lava ceramics at its finest.
The curved handle adds to the sculptural quality of the piece.
The base is stamped with the Dümler & Breiden mark, model number 206/18, and GERMANY.
