This vase stopped me the moment I spotted it. A compact, beautifully proportioned Italian ceramic piece from the 1960s, with a rich olive green and ochre-brown glaze and confident hand-modelled relief decoration on the body.
The shoulder is ringed with a band of stamped oval recesses, and below that sits a repeating motif of concentric spirals flanking a central trapezoid form, the kind of bold, almost pre-Columbian geometry that defined the best Italian export ceramics of this era.
The neck has a horizontal ribbed texture in warm brown tones that contrasts nicely with the greener body.
The base is marked "122/16" and "Italy" in handwriting, with no factory name. This numbering and marking style, combined with the form, glaze, and relief vocabulary, is consistent with production from the Montelupo Fiorentino area near Florence, where studios including Fratelli Fanciullacci and Pugi were active during the 1960s. It is attributed to one of these workshops but cannot be confirmed with certainty.
