This sturdy and beautifully earthy butter dish is part of the "Bretagne" line by Goebel Country, produced at the Oeslauer Manufaktur in Bavaria, West Germany in the 1970s. The two-tone design is instantly recognizable: a warm matte caramel brown lid with a glossy dark knob sits on a deep olive green glazed tray. The inside of the lid is finished in the same rich olive glaze, making this a cohesive and very tactile piece. The Bretagne line was made to be used, not just displayed. It is ovenproof, hand decorated, and built with the no-nonsense quality that Goebel's Oeslauer Manufaktur was known for. It fits perfectly into a farmhouse, mid-century modern, or earthy vintage kitchen aesthetic. The piece is in very good vintage condition. No chips or cracks.
