This chunky little owl has enormous personality. Hand-carved from wood and painted in warm shades of brown, red, and black with white feather details, he stands confidently on two sturdy taloned feet and stares you down with those round, expressive eyes. The carving has good detail throughout: sculpted wing and tail feathers, a bold beak, and ear tufts on either side of the head. The back shows the natural warm grain of the wood coming through the paint, and features a small hanging hole so he can be displayed on a wall as well as on a shelf. No maker's mark. The style is consistent with European or Eastern European folk woodcarving from the 1960s. Good vintage condition with honest wear and a lovely patina on the wood.
