Details
Few pieces stop you in your tracks quite like this one. This extraordinary sculptural bowl by Jasba Keramik of West Germany takes the form of a bird, its long curved neck arching back to form a dramatic handle, its crested head tilted upward with a wonderfully expressive eye and an open beak. The tail end rises in a flared spout on the opposite side, completing the silhouette of this ancient vessel form known in Scandinavia as an ølhøne, or beer hen. The entire surface is covered in a rich, deeply textured brown fat lava glaze that shifts between warm amber, dark rust, and near black depending on the light. Around the body runs a band of raised baroque scroll ornament, bold and rhythmic, sitting above a rougher lava texture that covers the lower body. The interior shows the same glaze in warm amber tones. The base has two drainage holes, suggesting this form was also used as a planter, though it works equally well as a decorative bowl or sculptural centrepiece. Marked on the base with the Jasba stamp and model number 219624. Jasba was founded in 1926 in Ransbach-Baumbach and became known for its experimental shapes and moulded patterns. This piece, with its Pre-Columbian inspired relief ornament and dramatic form, reflects the bold sculptural direction Jasba pursued in the 1960s. A substantial, heavy piece in very good vintage condition. No chips or cracks. Dimensions: 32.5 cm long × 18 cm wide × 21 cm tall (12.8" × 7.1" × 8.3") Weight: 1455 g If you're outside the EU, please message me for shipping costs. Die gesamte Oberfläche ist mit einer tief strukturierten braunen Lavaglasur bedeckt, die zwischen warmem Bernstein und fast Schwarz changiert. Ein umlaufendes Band aus barocken Reliefkurven ziert den Körper. Auf der Unterseite befinden sich zwei Öffnungen, was auch eine Verwendung als Pflanzgefäß ermöglicht. Modellnummer 219624, Jasba-Stempel. Sehr guter Vintage-Zustand, keine Chips oder Risse.
