This is a truly spectacular piece of Czech mid-century art glass — a sculptural vase designed by Josef Hospodka for Sklárna Chřibská, one of the most celebrated names in Bohemian glass design. The form is organically modelled with deep swirling ridges and lobes that catch and bend the light in endlessly shifting ways, encasing a vivid uranium yellow-green core within thick, optically clear glass.
The colour glows with that characteristic intensity of uranium glass, shifting from bright lime to deep chartreuse depending on the angle and light source. Under UV light it will fluoresce brilliantly. The form is weighty and substantial, feeling almost sculptural in the hand, and the optical effects created by the thick clear outer layer are extraordinary.
Hospodka's work for Chřibská in the late 1950s and 1960s is highly collected, and this undulating organic form is among his most recognisable designs. No chips or cracks are present. There is a little blemish, that you might be able to find on photo 4. It's that little, but it's there :)
