Two of a kind, same shape, same spirited sailboat, two completely different moods.
These two cylindrical ceramic vases come from a private collection originally assembled in Malta and brought to a small shop in Konstanz, Germany. Their exact atelier of origin remains a mystery despite a year of research, but the quality of the work speaks for itself. Each vase is hand painted with bold, graphic confidence: the sailboat motif is outlined in black in a style reminiscent of stained glass, then filled with vivid colour. The design wraps around the cylinder, set against a richly textured background, deep cobalt blue with black brushwork on one, smouldering brick red on the other. Yellow, red, green, blue and white sails catch an imaginary Mediterranean wind. The interior glaze is a warm creamy grey on both.
This listing offers your choice of one vase: the blue or the red. Both are identical in shape and size, each with their own character.
Each vase measures approximately 15.2 cm tall and 7.2 cm wide (6 × 2.8 inches). The blue vase weighs 311 g, the red 297 g.
