There is something quietly confident about this vase. No loud colours, no drama, just beautifully executed relief work in a palette that feels completely at home near the sea.
This tapered ceramic vase comes from a private collection originally assembled in Malta and brought to a small shop in Konstanz, Germany.
The fish motifs and decorative banding are modelled directly into the clay, then glazed in a rich steel blue with olive green accents. The vertical stripes alternate between dotted, beaded and wave-carved bands, giving the surface a rhythm that draws the eye all the way around. Two stylised fish swim across the front, outlined in deep navy against the blue ground. The interior is unglazed natural clay.
The base carries the impressed model number 507, the only marking on the piece.
The vase measures approximately 20.1 cm tall and 8.5 cm wide (7.9 × 3.3 inches) and weighs 416 g.
