Isn‘t this planter amazing? A Nuovo Rinascimento Ceramiche fat lava cachepot from the 1970s, and the glazework on this piece is genuinely exceptional.
The body carries large raised flowers and leaf clusters in a bubbling, volcanic lava glaze that shifts between lime green, white, and warm brown, set against a deep forest green background with cobalt blue accents pooling in the leaf recesses.
The rim features a band of open arched cutwork, also glazed in the same white-grey lava, giving the whole piece an almost crown-like silhouette. The interior is glazed in deep bottle green.
Nuovo Rinascimento Ceramiche was an Italian producer known for their expressive fat lava glazework, with pieces very much in dialogue with the West German tradition of the same era. The handwritten mark in golden-ochre on the dark green glazed base reads the model number, consistent with their known marking style.
