Few pieces capture the spirit of 1970s European glass design as well as the Oberglas "Eye" vase. This striking pressed glass piece in deep amber comes from the Austrian Oberglas factory, one of the most prolific producers of decorative pressed glass in Central Europe during the 1960s and 1970s.
The form is squat and slightly flattened, with a narrow collar neck, and every surface covered in a richly textured relief pattern. The centrepiece of the design is a bold eye motif, a raised oval lens shape with a central sphere, surrounded by flowing petal forms and set against an all over pebbled and ribbed background that catches the light from every angle.
In natural or backlit conditions, this vase simply glows. The amber glass shifts between deep honey and warm orange depending on the light, making it as much a light object as a decorative one. A windowsill piece par excellence.
In vintage condition, small chip (see photo), no cracks.

Oberglas "Eye" Vase aus gepresstem Glas in sattem Bernsteingelb, hergestellt in Österreich in den 1970er Jahren. Die flache, gedrungene Form zeigt ein markantes zentrales Augenmotiv mit Kugelzentrum, umgeben von fließenden Petalformen und einem allseitigen Kiesel und Rippenrelief. Im Gegenlicht leuchtet das Glas in warmen Honig und Orangetönen besonders schön. Sehr guter Zustand kleine Chip am Hals (siehe Bild), keine Risse.
