There is something deeply moving about this figure — the bowed head, the hands pressed together in prayer, the long robes falling to the base in a single unbroken line. Whoever carved this knew exactly what they were doing. This is a handcarved wooden sculpture of a praying figure, signed "Nowakowsky" (handwritten inscription, spelling may vary slightly) on the lower body, with what appears to be an additional mark on the base. The dark stained finish gives the piece a solemn, almost monumental quality despite its modest size, and the wood grain is beautifully visible throughout, adding texture and warmth to the surface.
