Bold, minimal, and utterly confident — this is a stunning planter vase by Van Daalen, a respected West German studio pottery. The form is beautifully simple: a gently tapering cylinder with a slightly widened base, finished in a deep matte navy blue glaze with a striking glossy red inner rim that catches the light wonderfully. The contrast between the velvety exterior and the red-lined opening gives this piece a real designer quality.
The base bears the impressed Van Daalen mark alongside the model designation B II, confirming it as an intentional studio design rather than purely commercial production. The stoneware body is substantial and well thrown, with a satisfying weight to it.
This vase works equally beautifully as a planter for a medium-sized houseplant, as a standalone decorative vase, or even as a storage vessel. It sits comfortably in any interior that appreciates understated mid-century design. We suspect it used to be a Rumtopf, but lost all the items that goes with is like a lid and cups :)
