A beautiful olive green art glass vase designed by Nanny Still for Riihimäen Lasi, Finland. The form is characteristically bold and architectural: a thick rectangular block of deeply textured glass shaped with three concave channels on each wide face, creating a rippling, almost folded silhouette. The colour shifts between warm olive, golden yellow and deep moss green depending on the light, and in direct sunlight the piece glows with an almost otherworldly intensity.
The glass walls are substantial and the surface texture is rough and granular on the exterior, in strong contrast to the smooth, flowing interior curves. Seen from above, the cross-section reveals a sinuous wave form that is as sculptural as it is functional.
Nanny Still was one of Finland's most celebrated glass designers, working for Riihimäen Lasi from 1949 to 1976 and producing some of the most iconic pieces of Scandinavian mid-century glass. This vase is a confident example of her mature style.
Please note: there is a small chip to the upper rim, visible in the photos. This is noticeable on close inspection and is priced accordingly.
