A rooster with attitude, carrying a rose, rendered in vivid glazes against a dark chamotte stoneware ground. This bold mid-century wall plaque features a deeply modelled relief of a stylised cockerel, his plumage painted in blue, red, yellow, purple and green on a textured hatched background. The composition is expressive and full of character, with a bright red rose and green leaves completing the folk art feel.
The back shows the reverse impression of the relief and is fitted with two metal hooks and a jute hanging cord.
No visible maker‘s mark or signature. Style is consistent with mid-century folk-inspired studio ceramics from Central or Eastern Europe or West Germany, likely 1960s to early 1970s.
Dimensions: 28.5 x 34 cm (11.2 x 13.4 inches), depth 2.5 cm (1 inch).
