This one caught my eye the moment I saw it. Two sailboats, a bold orange sun, warm yellows and browns on a creamy stoneware ground, all drawn in raised dark lines that divide the glaze almost like lead in a stained glass window.
It has that confident, slightly abstract quality you see in the best mid-century studio ceramics, where a few well-placed lines say more than a detailed painting ever could.
The format is unusual too: tall and narrow, more like a panel than a tile, which makes it feel almost architectural on the wall. It comes with its original iron chain, nicely patinated, ready to hang.
No maker‘s mark or signature visible. The style and technique point to West Germany or Scandinavia, 1960s to early 1970s. Unsigned, but clearly made by someone who knew exactly what they were doing.
Dimensions: 20.5 x 51.5 cm (8.1 x 20.3 inches), depth 1.5 cm (0.6 inch). Weight: 4,2 kg (9.2 lbs).
