Few things are as satisfying as finding a perfectly matched pair, and this coffee pot and tea pot from the Kahla Duett series are exactly that. Made by VEB Kahla in Thuringia, East Germany, most likely during the 1960s or 1970s, the Duett line is one of the most iconic designs to come out of the GDR, instantly recognisable by its deep cobalt blue glaze and the bold embossed circle pattern that wraps around the cylindrical body.
The set consists of a larger coffee pot and a smaller tea pot, both in the same Duett design with white porcelain lids and the characteristic two-tone contrast. Together they make a striking pair, whether displayed as a set or used for serving. The taller, slender coffee pot has an elegantly tapered spout, while the tea pot has a wider body and a lower profile. Both are in very good vintage condition.
Neither piece carries a Kahla backstamp. Like many Duett pieces, they were originally identified by paper stickers, which have been lost over the years. Both are part of a larger Duett collection listed separately in this shop, so combining with other pieces is easy.
Small tea pot dimensions: height 15.5 cm / 6.1 inches, width 8.4 cm / 3.3 inches, length including spout and handle 17 cm / 6.7 inches. Weight: 460 g / 16.2 oz.
Large coffee pot dimensions: height 19 cm / 7.5 inches, width 9.8 cm / 3.9 inches, length including spout and handle 20 cm / 7.9 inches. Weight: 737 g / 26 oz.
Combined weight: 1206 g / 42.5 oz.
Condition: very good vintage condition, no chips, no cracks, light traces of use consistent with age.
