A beautifully handcrafted pitcher from Deruta, the renowned ceramic town in Umbria, Italy, signed "Uantua Deruta" on the base in the workshop's characteristic red script.
The conical form with its slightly waisted profile is a classic Deruta shape, decorated with a generous hand-painted floral bouquet in rich burgundy, purple, orange, yellow, and olive green, all set against a crisp white ground with warm amber border lines at the rim and foot.
The ribbed handle features a delicate red dash detail, adding a charming artisanal touch. The interior is clean white glaze. Deruta pottery has been produced in this Umbrian town since the Renaissance, and pieces like this — made for the table as much as for display, carry that long tradition of Italian folk ceramics forward.
