A charming set of four round pewter wall medallions from Germany, each depicting one of the four seasons in a delightful folk art style. These are the classic "Vier Jahreszeiten" decorative pieces that were popular in German homes from the 1960s through the 1970s, and they remain wonderfully evocative of that era of handcrafted decorative metalwork.
Each medallion is cast in grey pewter (Zinn) with a finely detailed embossed scene on the front: spring shows a couple under a parasol with blossoming surroundings, summer depicts a woman and child harvesting grain in the fields with a village in the background, autumn shows figures picking fruit from a tree, and winter features a figure on a sledge in a snowy landscape.
The reverse side is plain with a small maker's mark visible. Each medallion is fitted with an ornate pewter hanging bracket at the top, threaded through a woven olive green and gold ribbon that allows them to be hung individually or as a group.
Three of the four medallions have their original ribbon hangers. One ribbon is missing, though the pewter hanger bracket itself is intact and a replacement ribbon can easily be sourced.
