What a bold and cheerful pair these are. Two nesting bowls in milky white opal glass by Schott Mainz, West Germany, part of their well-known Jenaer Glas range.
The decoration wraps all the way around each bowl: large stylised tulip heads in warm amber-yellow with white highlights, surrounded by feathery red petals and lush green leaves, repeating continuously in a folk art border that feels almost Scandinavian or Eastern European in character.
Schott Mainz Jenaer Glas opal glass was produced from the 1960s through the 1980s, known for its heat resistance, strength and dishwasher safety. The bodies are marked "Schott Mainz Jena Glas" on the base. The inner surface, true to the nature of opal glass, shows a soft ghosted impression of the pattern when light passes through, which is part of the charm of this material.
Both bowls are in very good vintage condition with no chips and no cracks. Normal light traces of use commensurate with age.
