Same fish, two completely different moods.
Both vases share an identical form, a compact amphora shape with a wide cylindrical body, a gently pinched waist, and a flared collar neck, and both carry the same bold hand-painted fish, outlined in black with vivid patches of yellow-green, red, blue, and white. The fish is large, stylised, full of personality, the kind of motif that feels at home in a mid-century Maltese studio as much as on a shelf today.
The backgrounds could not be more different. One vase is covered in a deep cornflower blue, brushed through with black to give it texture and movement.
The other burns in a volcanic red-orange, mottled and smouldering. Each glaze transforms the fish: lively and Mediterranean on the blue, fierce and dramatic on the red.
The interior is glazed in a clean off-white.
The base carries a hand-incised number 515 but no maker‘s mark or country stamp. Based on style, glaze, and provenance, these are from Malta, circa 1960s. Their exact atelier remains unidentified despite research.
This listing offers your choice of one vase, the blue or the red. Both come from the same private collection, originally assembled in Malta and brought to a small shop in Konstanz, Germany. More pieces from this same collection are available in the shop.
Each vase measures approximately 15 cm tall and 7 cm wide (5.9 × 2.8 inches). Blue vase: 287 g. Red vase: 288 g.

Beide tragen denselben handgemalten Fisch in schwarzer Konturlinie mit leuchtenden Flächen in Gelb, Rot, Blau und Weiß, einmal auf tiefem Kornblumenblau, einmal auf vulkanischem Rotbraun. Bodennummer 515, kein Herstellernachweis, ca. 1960er Jahre.
