Something is swimming through these vases.
A bold, graphic fish curves its way around each vase, outlined in black in the stained glass tradition, its body filled with vivid patches of yellow-green, red, and white against a deep stormy background. Air bubbles float upward. The fish turns, dives, disappears around the back. The mottled, smoky blue glaze on the body of each vase shifts between slate, teal, and charcoal, giving the impression of water caught in changing light.
The shape is a generous, rounded teardrop, smooth and satisfying to hold, tapering to a narrow neck. The interior is glazed in a soft off-white. Both vases are identical in size and form.
The only difference is the head of the fish: one has a warm yellow-green head, the other a vivid red.
The base carries a hand-incised number 518 but no maker‘s mark or country stamp. Based on the style, glaze, and the known provenance of this collection, these are from Malta, circa 1960s. Their exact atelier remains unidentified despite research.
This listing offers your choice of one vase: the yellow-headed or the red-headed. Both come from the same private collection, originally assembled in Malta and brought to a small shop in Konstanz, Germany. More pieces from this same collection are available in the shop.
Each vase measures approximately 15 cm tall and 7 cm wide (5.9 × 2.8 inches). Yellow-headed vase: 251 g. Red-headed vase: 236 g.

Zwei Tropfenvasen aus einer Privatsammlung, die ursprünglich in Malta zusammengetragen und später in einem kleinen Laden in Konstanz angeboten wurde. Beide Vasen zeigen einen handgemalten Fisch in schwarzer Konturlinie auf gesprenkeltem Blaugrau, der mit leuchtenden Flächen in Gelb, Rot und Weiß ausgefüllt ist. Der einzige Unterschied liegt im Kopf des Fisches: einmal in Gelbgrün, einmal in Leuchtendem Rot. Bodennummer 518, kein Herstellernachweis, ca. 1960er Jahre.
