Details
She looks perfectly innocent standing on your shelf. She is not.

This large hand painted Russian matryoshka is not a nesting doll but a bottle holder, designed to conceal a standard vodka or wine bottle inside her generous wooden body. The two halves twist apart to reveal the hollow interior.

The painting is genuinely beautiful, with a Gzhel-style blue and white floral apron on the front, rich burgundy red lacquered body, and an extraordinary top section decorated in deep navy blue with gold Khokhloma-inspired foliage and sparkling gold glitter details. White dot borders separate each section with great precision.
The face is charmingly expressive, with long painted lashes, rosy cheeks, gold earrings and a warm smile. The base shows natural unfinished wood with visible growth rings, typical of quality hand-turned Russian pieces from the Soviet era.

The doll measures approximately 31 cm tall and 9.3 cm wide (12.2 × 3.7 inches) and weighs 320 g.

Höhe ca. 31 cm, Gewicht 320 g, sehr guter Vintage-Zustand.
