A beautiful set of three vases by Strehla, one of the most collected East German ceramic manufacturers, all finished in the same striking glaze combination: a creamy off-white upper section with a warm brown drip rim, transitioning into a bold fat lava texture in sandy brown and grey, with two rows of raised oval circles filled with glossy deep green glaze. The result is unmistakably midcentury, earthy yet graphic, and highly decorative whether displayed individually or as a group.
All three pieces share the same decor and glaze family, making them a natural ensemble. Each is available separately as a variant in this listing.
Variant A, model 1276, wide rim vase
A compact cylindrical vase with a wide flared opening. The fat lava band wraps the lower two thirds of the body with a single row of green circles at top and bottom. Marked on the base with the Strehla stamp.
Dimensions: 20 cm tall × 10 cm diameter (7.9" × 3.9")
Weight: 567 g
Variant B, model 23, tall tapered vase
A tall elegant vase with a gentle taper toward the base and a wide flared mouth. The fat lava band with double row of green circles sits in the middle of the body, giving it a bold graphic quality. Marked on the base with the Strehla stamp and "Made in GDR."
Dimensions: 29 cm tall × 10 cm diameter (11.4" × 3.9")
Weight: 867 g
Variant C, model 982, handled vase
The most architectural of the three, this substantial handled vase has a rounded lower body, a narrow neck, and a single looped handle. The fat lava band with green circles wraps the belly of the piece. The heaviest of the three. Marked on the base with the Strehla stamp.
Dimensions: 28 cm tall × 11 cm diameter (11" × 4.3")
Weight: 1100 g
