This teapot is from the Kahla Duett series, made by VEB Kahla in Thuringia, East Germany, most likely during the 1960s or 1970s. The Duett line is one of the most iconic designs to come out of the GDR, instantly recognizable by its deep cobalt blue glaze and the bold embossed circle pattern that wraps around the body.
The pot has a cylindrical shape with a wide, comfortable handle and a elegantly tapered spout.
The lid is white porcelain with a round knob, creating the characteristic two-tone contrast this series is known for.
The glaze is deep and glossy, with the rich saturated blue tone typical of Kahla Duett pieces.
This piece does not carry a Kahla backstamp. Like many Duett pieces, it was originally identified by a paper sticker, which has been lost over the years. It is part of a larger Duett collection listed separately in this shop, so combining pieces is easy.
Dimensions: height 12.8 cm / 5 inches, width 11.5 cm / 4.5 inches, length including spout and handle 22 cm / 8.7 inches. Weight: 800 g / 28.2 oz.
Condition: very good vintage condition, no chips, no cracks, light traces of use consistent with age.
