Details
These striking vintage ceramic platters were made by A. Ferlay in Vallauris, the celebrated pottery village on the French Côte d'Azur, most likely during the 1950s or early 1960s. Each piece is marked on the base with the embossed stamp "Création A. Ferlay Vallauris." The platters feature a vivid saffron yellow glaze as the background, with a hand-painted Provençal landscape in the center depicting umbrella pine trees, rocky outcrops, water, reeds, and a rustic fence. Flying birds add movement to the scene. The scalloped rim gives the pieces an elegant, traditional French faïence character. The most distinctive feature is the three-dimensional ceramic cicada perched on the upper rim of each plate, painted in black, yellow, and white. The cicada is the iconic symbol of Provence and Languedoc, and its presence here is both decorative and deeply regional. Both platters are available as separate listings or as a matching pair. Please select your preferred size at checkout. Please note: the larger platter has a small glaze imperfection on the underside rim see pictures, consistent with age and firing. This does not affect the display side.
