A striking piece of handmade vintage folk art — this string art panel depicts a praying Madonna with a glowing candle, crafted on a black velvet covered board with small brass pins and threads in silver, red and gold.
The golden halo arches gracefully over the bowed head of the Madonna, while a starburst of red thread forms her heart and delicate silver threads fan out to shape her robe. The candle beside her is worked in red and gold, complete with a decorative golden crown base. The craftsmanship is meticulous and the overall effect is beautifully dramatic against the deep black background.
This style of string art was a popular craft and decorative art form in West Germany during the 1960s and 1970s. The back is covered in kraft paper over a cork board with a hanging hook ready to use.

Ein beeindruckendes Stück handgefertigte Volkskunst aus den 1960er bis 1970er Jahren — dieses Fadenbild zeigt eine betende Madonna mit Kerze auf einem mit schwarzem Samt bespannten Brett. Kleine Messingnadeln und Fäden in Silber, Rot und Gold bilden den goldenen Heiligenschein, das rot strahlende Herz und das fein aufgefächerte Gewand der Madonna. Die Kerze daneben ist in Rot und Gold gearbeitet, mit einem kunstvoll gestalteten goldenen Kranzfuß. Diese Art von Fadenbild war in Westdeutschland in den 1960er und 1970er Jahren ein beliebtes Kunsthandwerk. Die Rückseite ist mit Kraftpapier über einem Korkbrett kaschiert und hat einen Aufhänger. Kein Herstellerzeichen sichtbar. Zustand gut und altersgemäß, alle Fäden intakt.
