Meet this wonderfully expressive vintage folk art goat, hand-sculpted in terracotta clay and marked "MEXICO" on the base. The body is unglazed, finished with deeply incised linear texture suggesting a shaggy coat, while the head is glazed in a rich, moody dark green.
The face is full of personality: circular eyes, pierced nostrils, a subtle smile, and two upswept horns. The neck is hollow and open at the top, suggesting this piece may have originally functioned as a small vase or vessel as well as a sculpture.
This is the kind of piece that feels simultaneously ancient and completely contemporary. It would look right at home on a shelf of studio pottery, alongside pre-Columbian inspired objects, or as a standalone character on a mantelpiece. Solid and substantial in the hand, with real craft behind it.
