This is the kind of piece that brings instant warmth to a wall. A tall, slender carved and cast wood composition wall hanging in the shape of a cascading floral garland, hand-painted in rich polychrome tones of copper-brown, forest green, ochre, slate blue and dark brown.
The composition includes large open flowers with spiraling centers, broad leaves, a cluster of grapes, and what appear to be rosehips or small fruits at the base, all cascading downward from a large magnolia-style bloom at the top.
The piece has real depth and dimension, with confident brushwork that catches the light differently depending on where you hang it.
The back is painted black and fitted with a brass keyhole hanger. The material is a cast wood composition, which was widely used for decorative wall plaques across Europe in the 1960s and 1970s, and gives a convincing carved-wood appearance from the front. No maker‘s mark.
