A bold and characterful vintage hand-carved wooden wall plaque depicting Leo the Lion, the fifth sign of the zodiac. This is a substantial, weighty piece of folk art, carved in deep relief from solid wood and painted in a warm polychrome palette of russet brown, dusty blue, olive green and red.
The lion is depicted in profile within a circular medallion, surrounded by a carved border with a scalloped outer frame. The relief carving has real depth and presence, with the lion‘s full mane rendered in expressive detail. The background of the medallion is painted in a worn, atmospheric blue that gives the piece an aged, almost medieval quality. The sides and reverse show the original red ground paint beneath years of accumulated patina.
A small metal hanging hook is fitted to the back, and the piece is ready to hang immediately.
There are no cracks or structural issues; the wear and paint loss visible across the surface is entirely consistent with age and original use, and contributes greatly to the charm and character of the piece. Two companion panels depicting Gemini and Aquarius are also available in the shop.

Dieses ausdrucksstarke Wandrelief aus handgeschnitztem Holz zeigt das Sternzeichen Löwe in einem tief gearbeiteten Rundmedaillon mit farbig gefasstem Rahmen. Die Bemalung in gedeckten Tönen aus Rotbraun, Blau, Olivgrün und Rot verleiht dem Stück eine fast mittelalterliche Anmutung. Das Stück stammt wahrscheinlich aus den 1960er Jahren und befindet sich in gutem Vintage-Zustand mit patinabedingten Gebrauchsspuren, die seinem Charakter nur zugutekommen. Auf der Rückseite befindet sich ein Metallhaken zum sofortigen Aufhängen. Zwei begleitende Tafeln mit den Sternzeichen Zwillinge und Schütze sind ebenfalls im Shop erhältlich.
