Meet this absolutely irresistible vintage ceramic Basset Hound, large, weighty, and bursting with character. With those drooping ears, soulful amber eyes, and that wonderfully melancholy expression only a Basset can pull off, this piece is a standout in any room.
The glossy hand-painted glaze brings out every wrinkle and fold with remarkable detail, from the velvety folds of the ears to the heavy paws stretched out in front.
This is a substantial piece in the Italian tradition of large-format ceramic dog sculptures from the 1960s and 1970s, though it carries no maker‘s mark.
The tricolor palette of deep black, warm tan, and cream is classic for the breed and beautifully rendered. The figurine has real presence on a sideboard, hearth, or entryway shelf.
